Explore the pretty market towns, ancient churches, Northamptonshire Castles and Stately homes on a new three day walking break from Bridge Cottage Bed and Breakfast. Following the winding woodland tracks around Woodnewton and crisscrossing farmland and country estates, the self-guided walks break explores the traditional market towns of Oundle and Stamford including numerous villages of Fotheringhay, Elton, Wansford and Warmington to the east, Apethorpe, Kings Cliffe, Bulwick and Southwick to the west, whilst to the south is Cotterstock, Tansor, Lower and Upper Benefield and Glapthorn and many, many more all with beautiful villages thatched cottages – ALL WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE. All walks are of varying lengths, easy walking terrain, numerous pubs to call into for lunch on your way – leaving the car at Bridge Cottage and let your legs take the strain! Guidance can be given by Rod and Judy who have a very comprehensive knowledge of the area – O.S. maps provided.
3 day stay for £225.00 (normally £255.00) all inclusive including hearty breakfast to start your day and all clothes drying and cleaning facilities available on your return.
Supper is always available in the local pub – The White Swan – 300yds up the road.
There are so many walks to walk, routes to cycle and historic houses to visit – you don’t need to travel anywhere when visiting us! Bridge Cottage is located 5 miles from the 110 mile Nene Way long distance footpath, which can be joined 2 miles along the edge of fields at Fotheringhay. The route broadly follows the path of the River Nene and provides excellent territory for walkers and ramblers to see the Northamptonshire countryside. From our property there are numerous other walks in and around the Nene Valley, from Wansford to Fotheringhay, onto Cotterstock and Warmington, over to Elton and then up to Nassington, and back to Woodnewton via Apethorpe, from 2 miles to 20 miles in length depending upon requirements. These routes are also used regularly for people who wish to run/jog – often before breakfast! As we are only a few miles from South Lincolnshire, Stamford offers a lovely stroll round Burghley Park, a 10 mile drive takes you to Rutland Water for an 18 mile bike ride or numerous walking, rowing and canoeing round Oundle.
Cycling & Mountain Biking
Cycle paths, bridleways and quiet roads make cycling around East Northamptonshire pleasurable and safe. Bikes can be hired at Rutland Water either for a couple of hours or for a whole day – fantastic value!
Rugby / Football / Horse Racing
Bridge Cottage is conveniently placed for watching Northampton Saints or the or Leicester Tigers. There is also good local Club Rugby at Oundle. Peterborough Football Stadium is only 20 minutes drive from us whilst Horse Racing at Huntingdon and Towcestor is easily accessible. Point to Points are held at Dingley, and Cottenham, whilst Garthorpe, near Melton Mowbray and Thorpe near Newark are all within driving distance.
